I am a graduate of Oakland City University from Oakland City, Indiana. I earned my BA in English there with an emphasis on Theatre Arts. I traveled with the Drama Ministry 'Good News Players' where I served as President my Senior Year.
Being apart of the GNP gave me a lot of more knowledge and insight about being able to work with and minister to so many people around me. We not only traveled from church to church, but we attended youth rallies, and youth all-night events, and there were times we came back extremely exhausted but all the while loved what we were able to do. :) We were able to share at drug/alcohol meetings, and just be there for our community and the communities we were traveling to, where we were able to pray for and with them as well. It was also such a blessing to be able to share skits with The Remedy (my church while I was in Southern Indiana). To be able to be apart of a great church family while away from home was so amazing and to be apart of sharing Christ to 'the world' with them.
Being active in several of the plays productions as well at OCU; such as Little Women, Beauty and The Beast, Don Quixote, Virtual Devotion and Voices Heard: Girl Child Soldier. Also, being involved in the mission club, has opened my eyes to those around me as well, I have learned so much from my cast mates, treasuring the times that I was able to spend with them at OCU.
Whether I'm playing the part of a mom, a coffee shop waitress, a girl who feels unwanted or a hyperactive child. It's so amazing to see how each an every person I come into contact with may be able to relate to something I have said. I remember listening to a woman comment about a skit that I performed, saying how much she felt like the character I was portraying and how hearing those words helped her realize how she could deal with her situation. I've heard similar comments from guys as well about certain skits I've/we've done. Christian drama can reach so many on so many different levels no matter what you're going through, big or small. I love hearing those comments about how these skits have touched your hearts. Keep the comments coming! :)
I have been blessed to be able to travel to Honduras a couple times on Medical and Vacation Bible School teams, being able to minister to those who may have never heard God's Word before. To be able to see the look in someone's eyes when they first devote their life to Christ or even rededicate their life is simply breath-taking!
Since being back in California, I've pursued a plethora of opportunities that have allowed me to grow more. I still have many goals to pursue and I would love to achieve them with each growth opportunity I have. These opportunities have been an amazing and incredible journey and a blessing allowing me grow in so many ways.
Recently, I traveled to Greece where my team was able to come alongside an organization (Gateway2Life) that provided safe showers for women at a local refugee camp. I can say that I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity. For the opportunity to get to go to this refugee camp in Greece. Even though I was a little bummed I couldn't be in both Moria and Gateways2Life at the same time through out the week, I know that God placed me in the exact spot He wanted me to be.
I have been working with a special needs ministry at my church with several kids of all ages and some adults as well. I am blessed to be able to work with amazing Christ-filled people while at this job. I learn so much every time I am around each and everyone of them. It's been an amazing experience in every way possible.
I've been blessed to be able to help lead the college ministry at my church also (New Life Christian Center). It's so amazing to get to know the students and share with them. They are amazing and their desire to grow encourages me and challenges me daily to step out of my comfort zone and connect with their lives.
I love being apart of body of believers in the church. Because we are the church! We are here to spread the Gospel and to share our hearts. In our church ministry we want to be able to reach those who have been 'turned off' by 'church' and show them the 'true love' that Christ has to offer each and everyone of us. A 'come just as you are' type of environment, where you can be comfortable running to the arms of Christ with their battles, knowing you are not alone.
It's time take that step, step out of our comfort zone, and love people one step closer to Jesus! What are you going to do about it?
Grace and Peace to you all,
